BGL Meeting Minutes October 31st, 2011 Meeting held on Wednesday Nov 2 to avoid Halloween conflict. Meeting called to order at 7:09 by Jeff Miller, Brad Stafford was unable to attend Notes being taken by Marcia Miller as Camilla Thacher were unable to attend The new SAMS trail maps were handed out to all those attending. Treasures report was as follows: balance of 11/2/11 $4983.70 Trail reports; Bernardston: There is an alternate route behind Brandon’s allowing the trail to stay more in the woods. There is a need to work on the 2 bridges on Pratt’s property by Old state road. Due to the storm we need to do a walk thru on all trails to assess damage. Bridges look good, some possible redecking. Gill: Bridges look fine. The reroute by Augustine’s is a no go. We will have to stay in existing trail. The bridge needs work due to a tree backing up water. We need 2 telephone poles, Doug to check with Mike Snow. The bridge in the center is holding up well. Dave Annear will cut the wood to make it wider. Leyden: Is in good shape. Facey is ok with cutting some trees to widen the trail east of the George Lamb Rd intersection. Tammy thinks we can keep the trail as is at Hunt Hill - so far has not returned Carey’s calls. Dave has not been able to make contact with Ms. Croutworst. Swap meet. Vendors include Higgins, Ray’s, Gary’s powersports, Mike Trombley- ledpowersports, Scotty’s sled werx and the Guilford club. Brad dropping off supplies to Tina who will do inventory and then do the shopping. Tina will contact volunteers. Dave Annear has offered the fryer but needs some help. Advertising will be on Bear country and WHAI, town crier, Craig’s list, facebook and on the SAMS website. The SAM trailer will be there. Volunteers to be onsite by 730. Raffle: There are still 25-30 tickets left to be sold. Please return them so we can sell them at the swapmeet. New SAM MAP: BGL was allotted 419 maps. It was suggested that 1 map be handed out for free with each registration/family. After that there will be a $5 charge. These will be available only thru clubs. If sold at the store the charge will be $5. Any new members attending a meeting will also get a free map. Trail signs: Have been ordered, Corridor signs will be Blue/white. Secondary will be brown and yellow. Elections: will be held next month. Current nominations are President- Brad Stafford Vice president- Teresa Mason, Treasurer- Jeff Miller and secretary – Camilla Thacher Toys for tots: Please bring new unwrapped toys to the Nov meeting. These will be delivered to the SAMs meeting on Dec 1st Other Business: Dan Hale has offered to help make signs, such as decals for trucks, sleds and signs for food ect… and on the trails The mini truck is up and running. Brandon has graciously offered to let the club borrow $3500 to buy the tracks. The motion to accept this offered and passed in favor of borrowing the money. Brandon will write the check to BGL It was discussed how another club put a one year surcharge on their club membership to raise funds for purchasing a major piece of grooming equipment. It was well received by members attending knowing the intent and it would be for one year. Mark MacKensie has offered to help with excavating, asking for just fuel money. Dave Annear’s bearcat is available for use in Leyden. The Bearcat in Gill will be staying there but does need some work. Trail Reports: · Bernardston – o Bridge at bottom of Couch Brook Rd needs some repair. o Brad will talk to Mike Pratt regarding work on his trail. Bob has a steel covert that can be used. o Andrews wants trails moved to run along the river. Much clearing to be done. Owner has given permission for this clearing. · Gill: o Bridge repairs needed but not too bad. o Need to get permission from Augustine’s for work to be done. o Will check possible repair needed for bridge by Charlie’s Repair · Leyden – To be determined o Brad will contact Croutwerst for plans to reroute trail o Still waiting for call back from Tammy regarding trail access Old Business: · Log books o Log books handed out to those with club sleds o Reminder that logs books must be kept with the sled. Must contain starting mileage at beginning of season, repairs done to the sled, and approx. mileage for each time out grooming. Please also include any add’l info that may be useful. · Poles available o At Steel shed – 4 poles (1 40’, 2 30’, 1 22’) o Bob has 2 -20 poles · Snow fence avail, 40-50 ft Swap Meet · Vendors will be Higgins, Rays Cycles and Scotties. Green River Honda a maybe. Possible new vendor. · Jeff will handle to Vintage sleds · Motion to advertise by radio (WHAI) as last year. Increase budget to $300. · Will discuss volunteers next meeting · Encouraged members to hand out flyers Sam’s meeting · Brad Stafford gave report o AD&D of $3000 Insurance automatically given to members purchasing Sams Registration. Coverage for entire family o Trustee of reservation holding seminar at French King Bowling Alley. Please let Brad or Jeff know if you’d like to attend as pre-registration is required. o State Trail Maps now available.
Other Business · Lumber o Cowls: All lumber from Cowls now at David Annear’s house in Leyden. He acquired additional lumber from Cowls including 12” wide skirt board. o Wooden planks still available at Galipaults · 20/20 raffle ongoing to raise money for the Mini Truck. Encouraged all members to sell raffle tickets. Drawing will be at the swap meet on 11/13/11. Brad has more books if needed. · Swap meet to be held at the Steel Shed on 11/13/11. o Volunteers needed. Will discuss further at next month’s meeting. o Open request to have people try to obtain additional vendors. · Delegate needed to attend SAMs meetings. Brandon volunteered to attend this month’s meeting. · Club Vice President for 2011 needed. · Snow Show at Big E Oct 15 & 16 o Members encouraged to go to show support of SAMS. · New State Trail map is complete. BLG club trails identified as BG · Sticker prices o Family discount ends 12/1/11: $15 1st sled, $5 per additional sled o Sticker price as of 12/1/11: $25 per sled · Groomers o 2 Bear cats at Brandon’s, 1 running, the 2nd sled not running. Trail Reports: · Bernardston o Landowners in general had no complaints o Maintenance to be done on the 2 groomers o Will research bridge past purple meadow, to determine an alternate route to bypass the golf course. (Shocro and Jason Dean's property) o Other Bearcat is in good condition. Has no studs o Gary wants a similar groomer to ours so it can be interchangeable with ours. Possible summer project o Bridge on Pratt's road needs repair, Brad will talk to Mike about it · Gill o Will pick up signs in the next few weeks o Need to move the bridge off the railroad. Work crew to meet at 9:00 Sunday o Bear Cat still at Scotty's, Shield over motor is missing. Dave Annear will donate a shield. Will be picked up by Brad who will summerize it. Brandon will store it in his garage. Seat needs to be repaired as well o Bridge by Augustines needs work, may be able to move it upstream. Plan for September o River Rd bridge may need redecking o Condition of other bridges not clear after the heavy rain storm. Need to be inspected o Discussed widening bridges to accommodate 6 ft groomer, or get heavier groomer · Leyden o Yellow and red drag can be kept where it is for the summer o Brad visited Croutworst and the tenants to discuss speeders. Discussed rerouting a trail on her property, May need a 20 ft bridge to be built. Landowner approves alternate route o Brad spoke with David Brooks regarding the trail to the tower. He confirmed that the trails is NOT open to snowmobiles. He will speak with person he thinks broke the trails. We will put orange snow fence next year to prevent trespassers o Bridge west of fire pit needs repair, perhaps widening o Fox Hill to Leyden, land bridge needs repair due to washout. Ted Abbot is landowner, Need to talk to him for permission to repair. Other Business · Club Goals o Discussed need for new grooming sled. Current grooming sleds are aging. Discussed if want to purchase another Skandic this summer, and do we sell the current sleds? No decisions made at this time. o Bearcat at Brandon's is in good condition. Gill needs new Bearcat (needs scags and maybe new skiis) o Club members encouraged to look for a used groomer (Skandic widetrack) at $4500 cap. 100% Delegates to approve of purchase § Motion to purchase groomer as proposed: Brad Stafford, Seconded: Dave Annear. Passed by unanimous vote. · Wood bundle still at Cowls Lumber. Dave Annear will pursue another deal with Cowls. · Family membership: Proposed $25/sled after December 1. Keep Early Bird price at $15, and $5 add'l sleds. Eliminate family membership. Price change will be published on BGL website. o Motion to adopt proposed membership pricing: Dave Annear, Seconded: Jeff Beckwith. Passed by unanimous vote. · Golf Tourney: Billy Butler volunteered his band. We can ask Kiwanis to use their park · Donate $100 from club to the Vets for use of the club

Was able to groom around. o Sign posted by land owner thanking riders for slow and safe speeds. o Concern about people going down West Rd, perhaps missing the trail or concerned about breaking the new, steep snow bank. Suggested to post signs, and have Timmy Snow or Scott DiGeorge open up a spot · Gill o Trails are great. All good feedback. o Mudholes appearing o Concerns about lack of direction signs from riders. Suggested to add signs · Leyden: o Trails are in good condition o East Vt connection closed north of Finney's due to sugaring. West trail is open to Vermont. |
