TRAIL CONDITIONS
TRAIL UPDATE 1/23/2012 Im sorry to report that at this time our trails are still closed. Hello everyone,
Even though mother nature might give us a taste of what is in store for us this winter, I must remind you our trails are CLOSED to snowmobile traffic. Land owners have gates and fences still up. Trails are still in need of clearing and bridges need repair in all 3 towns. Depending on the weather the trails will be open for Work bee's on sunday, Check our facebook site and your ...emails for updates.
Also a date reminder our next meeting is Nov 2nd, wed at 7pm at the vets club in Bernardston. Moved off Monday due to it being Halloween.
The swapmeet is set for Nov 13th at the Steel shed, check facebook and http://www.bglsnow.com/ for details and we need volunteers to help out!
One of our returning sponsers for our swapmeet, Higgins Powersports, on the corner of routes 32 1nd 122 in Barre Mass, is having thier open house this weekend today, saturday 9am-4pm and sunday 11am - 3pm. Make sure if you get a chance to go down there to fill out your ski-doo promotion paper. Like last year if you go to the skidoo.com website and download and fill out thier dealer promotion form and let them know your part of BGL. For every form we turn in our club gets $10. last year we got $470.

TRAILS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! Sorry to say but after the last rain storm are trails are closed. The runoff has cut spots thruout our trails leaving ice shelves and dropoffs up to 2 feet deep. In the fields there are half frozen ponds and draining streams that are also VERY deep. Also in many spots the hard packed trail has become hollow underneath and with the next forecasted storm it will get only worse. I posted a few quick pics in our facebook page. If you have any questions email me at nvrplay2ty@yahoo.com or call at 413-374-4201 Brad Stafford BGL President
February 20th Leyden - the west VT connection, previously closed due to logging, is open. The trail has not been groomed, but is passable. Leyden - the east VT connection is now closed north of Finney's field due to sugaring operations on Bergeron's and Franklin Farm. Numerous tap lines went up this week. Hunt Hill, Beaver Meadow, and the trail on Finney's property are still open - one can ride to the top of the hill above Finney's, but no further. January 30th Leyden - the east Vermont connection is open and groomed. Even if you don't have a VT Trail pass to continue on to Guilford, you can still enjoy about a 2-mile ride out to Franklin Farms, and there's a nice hilltop spot along the way. North of the hilltop watch for tap lines that are across the trail, marked with ribbon. You might see landowner Jim Finney out there on XC skis, so please use caution. Many thanks to the groomers who are doing their best to keep the trails smooth. You can help too just by rolling on that throttle instead of gripping it out of the corner - leave some snow for the next rider! More snow coming! Enjoy and ride safe. January 28th All trails open and being groomed as much as we can. Be careful in Leyden around the Glabach farm and down towards the fire pit as the landowners could have horses out on the trails. PLEASE RESPECT THEIR SPACE! January 17 - Leyden All Trails are open except the west Vermont connection, which is open only to the field above Neipp's farm. The remainder is closed to Vermont. There is a trail re-route in West Leyden just west of the George Lamb Rd crossing. All trails have been groomed over the last couple of days, except for the east Vermont connection to Franklin Farm, which has been broken. More snow is forecast for tomorrow, perhaps followed by some icing, so caution will be the order of the day. Again, if you're not sure where the trails are, wait until they are broken. January 9th ALL Trails still closed Yet again mother nature teased us and got our hopes up for nothing. HOPEFULLY between this storm and another possibly on wednesday we will have enough to officially open our trails. THANKS FOR EVERYONE PATIENCE SO FAR! Brad Stafford President December 29, 2010 PLEASE BE AWARE!!!! PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!!!! USE EXTREME CAUTION in Leyden by the Glabach farm down thru to the fire pit and out to the Frizzle hill road crossing as the local landowners ride thier horses out there. ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS! REMEMBER IT IS THIER LAND!
Well as usual the weatherman was wrong and we didnt get what he thought we were going to get. Trails in Bernardston and Gill have not been broke open by the club as we hope they will survive the warm weather thats coming this weekend. Trails in Leyden have a little more coverage but all the fields are bare still **** NOTE **** The western connector trail into vermont just past the George Lamb Rd crossing will probably not be open this year due to logging. Once it snows we hope to open the Eastern one by the Glabach Farm *********************************************************************** December 27, 2010 TRAIL UPDATE!!!!! I know everyone is itching to go out on the trails but please wait, unless you know exactly where you are going, as there has been trail changes in all towns. especially by the Gill elementary school and the Route 5 crossing south of the Hollywood. and in Leyden by the Georg lamb rd crossing NOTICE...Not all trail got checked/cleared yet this year and all the regular signage has NOT been posted. respect our land owners! If your not 100% sure wait until a the trail is open. We will do our best to get out there ASAP. PLEASE PASS THIS NOTICE ON TO ALL CLUB MEMBERS! Also this being a windy storm there are probably trees/branches down so be extra careful and feel free to clear them out of the trail if you do go out there. Check our website for more updates http://www.bglsnow.com// Brad Stafford | cember 26, 2010 It looks like mother nature is going to start sending us the white gold that we snowmobilers wish for all year. I know all of you, including myself, are anxious to get out for the first ride of the year. Once again, when there is enough snow I hope and urge everyone to use EXTREME CAUTION when you're out there, especially the first time. As every year, there have been some trail changes (some listed below), trail closures and delicate land owner situations that make it imperative that everyone plays by the rules and obeys all trail signs to insure our trails stay open. Many hours that could have been used to work on the trails this year were spent repairing relationships with land owners. Not all trails have been walked, so PLEASE! GO SLOW Please pass this along to any and everyone that you know that uses our trail system. If you have any concerns or issues either with other riders or find a section or trail that needs attention you may email me directly at Nvrplay2ty@yahoo.com Trail changes to note: WATCH HERE FOR MORE TRAIL CHANGES, AS NOT ALL ARE LISTED. Leyden: Heading west in West Leyden, about 50 yards west and downhill from the George Lamb Road crossing, the trail turns right through the stone wall and enters the field. Look for orange snow fence at the turn. Look for flags left once in the field. THIS FIELD HAD A LOT OF ICE BEFORE THE SNOW. Particularly use caution when crossing the culvert, which is well marked. Just west of the culvert the trail turns left back into the woods - look for signage. Follow the trail about 50 yards to the Colrain/Vermont intersection - left to Colrain, right to Vermont, HOWEVER the Vermont trail is open only to the top of Jeff Neipp's field. Logging operations have left the trail impassable to the north, with new logging operations to start TBD on Neipp's land. The field is a nice scenic view and worth the trip, but this trail is likely closed for the season as a Vermont connector. RIDE SAFE AND SMART SO WE ALL CAN KEEP RIDING!! Brad Stafford
